The House is Painted!
May 2007
Magdalene Home was in need of some repairs such as the basement steps being replaced and other small but important projects. One housemother knew that her church sometimes was able to help out with small construction projects as thier way of serving the community. She asked Pastor Jeff Hensley of Mountain Christian Fellowship if he could come take a look at the work we needed and see if he could help.

Pastor Jeff agreed to help with the project then said "Wow, it really looks like you need a paint job!" Magdalene Home was looking a bit sad, especially after ACCESS insulated us and left the telltale round circles all over the home. We explained that it wasn't in the budget to paint the home and imagine our suprise when Pastor Jeff said "We will do it! You pick the color, we will have a team here to paint Magdalene Home on May 5th!"

We quickly picked out a color scheme and submitted our choices to the Board of Directors who were more then happy with our choice. May 5th a team of youth, professional painters, adults and parents showed up and by the afternoon, Magdalene Home was looking better then ever.

Thank you Mountain Christian Fellowship for improving the lives of our young mothers and babies.  We truly appreciate the effort you put into our home and mission.

Magdalene Home Hires New Director
February 2007
Magdalene Home is pleased to announce the hiring of a new Executive Director! While we were sad to see Kathy Tonkovich retire, we are thrilled that she will be staying on with Magdalene Home as a volunteer and helping enrich the lives of the young mothers and children of Magdalene Home!

Katrina Lee is a former Housemother who has returned to fill the role of Executive Director. Katrina returns to Magdalene Home with a history rich in working with youth and non-profit organizations. Katrina was formerly a Program Coordinator with Community Works and an advocate on the SART team of Southern Oregon. She is excited about the opportunity to enhance the lives of young mothers and children in the community!

We welcome you to come for a tour of the home, a chance to meet Katrina, the staff and the young mothers and the children we serve at Magdalene Home!

Project Raise the Roof
Fall, 2006
Last summer, it became apparent that Magdalene Home's aging roof would not last to see another season.  When we purchased the Home in 2004, we expected the roof to last another five years.  Damage from last winter's rain and wind storms hastened that moment, and we were faced with an expensive re-roofing project that had not been budgeted.

Together with assistance from KDOV (www.thedove.us), last August we conducted "Project Raise the Roof" on the air with Perry Atkinson.  Magdalene Home board members fielded phone calls from generous listeners, who called to pledge financial assistance in our quest for a new roof.  Within hours, not only had we secured adequate funds for our roof, but also a roofer who donated the labor for the project.

Kathy Tonkovich, our director, was a guest later that morning on Christian therapist Patrick Doyle's radio show, where they had an opportunity to converse about the problems of teen pregnancy.

The project was a great success, bringing together the generosity of the Christian listeners with the unexpected need of this Christian Home for unwed teen mothers, Magdalene Home.  The work was completed quite quickly, and included the tear-off of the old roof, installation of new sheathing, installation of new 25-year roofing, and new gutters.

We are ready for the rains!  Thank you, KDOV and KDOV listeners!
