Magdalene Home
A loving alternative for pregnant & parenting teen girls
One Girl's Story
Here is the story of one of the girls who lived at Magdalene Home. To protect her privacy, we'll call her "Betty."
Betty entered the Home through Adult Family Services and Drug Court. By the age of seventeen, she already had two babies, one of which was born a drug baby. Betty was expecting her third child and she was drug dependent!
Betty entered the Home because there was no "safe" place for her; she had been living with her mother who was drug and alcohol dependent. As she told her story, Betty shared how hard it was to enter Magdalene Home. Both of her children had been taken away from her, and the requirement for entering our Home was that she had to abide by our house rules. During Betty's stay at Magdalene Home, she worked on her GED, she gave birth to a drug-free baby, and she was also able to meet the court requirements to regain custody of her children.
Betty stayed in the Home for eleven months, after which she moved into an apartment with her three children. When she left Magdalene Home, she was drug-free, had almost completed her GED, and had proven herself to be a good mother to her children.
