A loving alternative for pregnant & parenting teen girls

One Girl's Story

Here is the story of one of the girls who has lived at Magdalene Home.  To protect her privacy, we will call her "Betty."

Betty entered the home through Adult Family Services and Drug Court.  By the age of seventeen, she already had two babies, one of which was born a drug baby.  Betty was expecting her third child and she was drug dependent!  Betty entered the Home because there was no "safe" place for her; she had been living with her mother who was drug and alcohol dependent.  As she shared her story, Betty shared how hard it was to enter the Home.  Both of her children had been taken away and she came into a home with rules; rules she had never had to live with before.  During Betty's stay, she was able to give birth to a drug-free baby and and she was also able to meet the requirements to regain custody of her babies.  While at Magdalene Home, she worked on her GED and made plans to attend nursing school.  Betty stayed in the Home for eleven months, after which time she moved into her own apartment!  She is now living drug-free with her three children, has almost completed her GED, and is a very good mother to her children.
